Augmented Craft Pavilion
Bangkok, Thailand (2026)
Augmented Craft Pavilion was developed for Bangkok Design Week 2026 as the event’s Info Point, bringing together rattan construction and Mixed Reality-assisted fabrication at architectural scale. The pavilion uses thick steam-bent rattan canes as its primary structural system, extending techniques and materials more commonly associated with furniture-making into an architectural application.
Its fabrication process combines manual forming with digital guidance. Mixed Reality overlays were used during both prefabrication and assembly, allowing individual rattan members to be formed against full-scale holographic profiles and subsequently positioned within the non-repeating three-dimensional structure without conventional drawings or dedicated jigs. A robotically 3D-printed concrete base anchors the pavilion, while a translucent membrane forms the lightweight roof. The project explores how emerging fabrication technologies can augment rather than replace material knowledge and skilled manual processes.
